ANDREAS GURSKY

The Düsseldorf-based artist Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer next one, Thomas Ruff and Thomas Struth to the internationally most significant contemporary photographic artists. With its large format, but also by its impressive precision, Andreas Gursky seems to dissolve the concept of photography and again to question the concept of the picture again.
In the Museum Kunst Palast in Dusseldorf Andreas Gursky presented ertmals after 14 years of 60 works that he has prepared especially for this retrospective. Including some of his latest, reminiscent of abstract painting digital photography. In search of the picturesque gesture Gursky achieved remarkable result, which he presented in his usual oversized shape.
Andreas Gursky that rightly belongs to the most important photographic artists, but is most evident in his early works: the masterful eye for the moment! Especially invites Gursky in his works to intense speculation that keeps the audience so ready some surprise. In works such as “Frankfurt Airport” the image at first glance usual technically perfect and of high aesthetic seems dominated, but a second look reveals an almost hidden comic. So places to discover in the destination cities that do not exist in the form (Cologne main station) or airport (Plauen). And just this wink, this visualization of imperfection makes the exhibition so worthwhile – also because of the excellent, not chronological presentation.
